yellow birds in a tiny rainbow

This pair of earrings has two hand-folded miniature paper cranes in sunny yellow, lacquered for strength and durability (very sturdy! Carefully lacquered paper maintains a bit of flex, so they’re reinforced but not brittle), arranged vertically in a rainbow of glass beads, on stainless steel hardware. The wingspan of each crane measures just shy of ¾" (super tiny!), and the bottom of the earring hangs just about 1.5" from the earlobe. Paper cranes are lightweight but substantial, and a few glass beads give these earrings a real good dangle.

I’ll never forget the last words he ever spoke to me, he said:

“You know what, mothgoblin? If I had a nickel for every time if I had a hammer, I’d hammer in the morning, I’d hammer in the evening, I’d hammer at suppertime, because when a hammer’s on a bagel… well... I’d have at least fifteen cents. And that’s not nothing, kid.”

He tossed the earrings my way, gave an exaggerated wink, and sauntered back into the laundromat. I did not catch them.
